League Cup round up

Oh wait sorry Carling Cup
Oh no i mean Capital One cup

Anyway in the cup with many names there were some fantastic results. man u running out 2-1 winners over Newcastle 2-1 and Arsenal winning 6-1

Nine Premier League clubs featured on Wednesday night in the Capital One Cup Third Round, all vying to be in the hat for the fourth round draw.
Manchester United proved too strong for Newcastle United at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Anderson and Tom Cleverley in a game that saw the early comeback from injury of Wayne Rooney. Rooney was heavily involved in United’s attacking threat throughout the game but couldn’t get himself on the scoresheet.
Magpies ‘keeper Rob Elliot was also in fine form as he repelled plenty of first half attacks from the hosts but he was finally beaten just before half time thanks to Anderson’s 25 yard screamer. Cleverley had missed a golden chance in the first half but made up for it just before the hour mark with a curling effort beating the diving Elliot.
That looked to be game over, but Alan Pardew introduced Shane Ferguson and Papiss Cisse and the pair combined wonderfully for Cisse to head home his much needed first goal of the season. The Senegalese striker then spectacularly hit the bar but that is as close as Newcastle came to sending the match to extra time.
Arsenal produced perhaps the most comfortable performance of the round as they beat lowly League One side Coventry 6-1 at the Emirates. A few players who had a point to prove also managed to do so as Olivier Giroud bagged his first Gunners goal, Andrei Arshavin scored on his first Arsenal appearance since January and Theo Walcott netted twice to show that he can play in that more advanced position and that contract talks may continue.
A screamer from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and a header from Ignasi Miquel put the icing on the cake for the Gunners who have relished this competition over the past decade, without really winning as many trophies as they should have. Mark Robins was taking charge of just his second game as Sky Blues manager and the only conciliation for him would have been Callum Ball’s excellent second half goal to give the large away support something to cheer.
Brendan Rodgers is slowly bedding in as the manager at Liverpool after a tough start, but his youngsters really impressed as they came from one down to beat West Brom at the Hawthorns. Gabriel Tamas gave Albion an early lead after a mistake from Liverpool stopper Brad Jones, but from then on the visitors seemed in control of the game. Real Madrid loanee Nuri Sahin levelled on 17 minutes thanks in part to another ‘keeper error, this time from Ben Foster.
Rodgers then sent on more youngsters in the second half, including 16-year-old Jerome Sinclair, and the pace and hunger paid dividends as a neat move involving Spanish starlet Suso ended up with Sahin tapping home the winner with less than ten minutes left.
Queens Park Rangers supporters may be getting slightly concerned as yet another defeat continues their poor start to the season. The Premier League’s bottom two met at Loftus Road and it was Reading who would come out on top as a game full of great goals ebbed and flowed.
Junior Hoilett’s solo effort after quarter of an hour put Rangers in front, only to be cancelled out by Kaspars Gorkss’ header against his former club two minutes later. The game became scrappy until Djibril Cisse rifled home a 25 year effort with 20 minutes to go to lift the crowd in West London.
Once again QPR couldn’t hang on to their lead for longer than five minutes as Nicky Shorey hit a peach of free kick in off the crossbar that seemed to be taking the game into extra time. Pavel Pogrebnyak had other ideas. The Russians cheeky back heel inside the six yard box put Reading in front for the first time in the game with eight minutes left and then the striker caused all sorts of problems winning a penalty, only to step up and see it saved by Julio Cesar.
Tottenham comfortably overcame League One side Carlisle, showing the strength in depth that Andre Villas-Boas has collected over the summer. A first Spurs goal for Jan Vertonghen in the first half was eclipsed by a long range strike from Andros Townsend putting the tie beyond United. Another summer arrival Gylfi Sigurdsson netted a third goal as the Spurs go marching on to the fourth round.
Norwich got back to winning ways as they sneaked past League One side Doncaster Rovers at Carrow Road by a goal to nil. Acadamy graduate Alexander Tettey fired home the only goal of a pretty miserable game.
There was also the draw for the next round. Chelsea's game against Manchester United is the pick of the Capital One Cup fourth-round draw.
The Blues slaughtered Wolves while United edged past Newcastle to set up the mouthwatering clash.
Reading, who beat QPR in a five-goal thriller, will play an Arsenal side which scored six against Coventry in the third-round.

Elsewhere Liverpool play Swansea, which pits Reds boss Brendan Rodgers against his old side, while Norwich face Tottenham in the final all-Premier League tie.
Sunderland and Wigan will be favourites to progress against Middlesbrough and Bradford respectively, while Southampton travel to Leeds.

Fixtures will be played in the week commencing October 29, 2012.

Thats all for today, thanx for reading.

United Spurs win, Arsenal and City draw

Welcome back after a fantastic day of premier league football. if you watched any of the games you would realise just why the Premier League is the best in the world.

Here are match reports on those games:

Liverpool vs Man U

Manchester United moved up to second in the Premier League table after beating Liverpool 2-1 on an emotional day at Anfield.
Jonjo Shelvey was sent off for the home side towards the end of a first half they had largely controlled, but then Steven Gerrard gave the 10-man Reds the lead within a minute of the start of the second half.
That lead only lasted five minutes, however, before United defender Rafael equalised. The visitors then began to make their one-man advantage count and Robin van Persie gave them the lead from the penalty spot nine minutes from time.
The win is United's first at Anfield in almost five years, since Carlos Tevez scored the only goal of the game in December 2007. The victory sends them up to second in the table on 12 points, one behind leaders Chelsea.
Liverpool still await their first league win of the season, and remain in the bottom three where they were shunted down to following Saturday's results.

Man City vs Arsenal
Laurent Koscielny struck with eight minutes remaining as Manchester City and Arsenal drew 1-1 at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.
Arsenal impressed for much of the first half, but Joleon Lescott’s header turned the game the way of the hosts, and gave them the advantage at half time.
City had chances to put the game beyond the match in the sort of encounter Arsenal have often lost in recent seasons, but the Gunners held on and found their equaliser through Koscielny's clinical shot following a corner late on.
Both sides preserve their unbeaten starts to the season, with identical records of two wins and three draws, but Arsenal remain in front of City in fifth place by virtue of goal difference.
Newcastle vs Norwich

Demba Ba grabbed a first-half winner as Newcastle United beat Norwich City 1-0 at the Sports Direct Arena in the Premier League.
Newcastle took the lead with just under 20 minutes on the clock through Ba and the hosts could have went to the interval with a two goal advantage but Papiss Cisse blasted a first-half stoppage-time penalty well over the bar.
Norwich remained neat and tidy but were frustrated by a Newcastle side willing to sit deep for large swathes of the second period before hitting their visitors on the break.

Sp*rs vs QPR

Tottenham Hotspur claimed their first home win of the season of Andre Villas-Boas's tenure by beating Queens Park Rangers 2-1 in their Premier League clash at White Hart Lane.
QPR took a deserved first-half lead through former Tottenham striker Bobby Zamora despite being forced into an early change when Jose Bosingwa picked up an injury.
As France captain Hugo Lloris looked on from the bench once more, Brad Friedel ensured the deficit was not greater at half-time with a handful of quality saves.
QPR remained the better side until the hour mark when – after a half-time switch-around by Villas-Boas – Spurs scored two goals in as many minutes.
An Alejandro Faurlin own goal was followed up almost immediately by Jermain Defoe's fourth of the season to ensure back-to-back wins for Spurs for the first time this season.
The victory sees Spurs move into the top half of the table, up to eighth on eight points above West Ham and Newcastle on goal difference.
Despite their impressive showing at White Hart Lane, QPR remain in the bottom three with just two points from their first five games of the season.

Thats all folks, a few Capital One cup matches in mid week so ill be back then.

Saturday round up, looking forward to todays games

So another busy Saturday passes and now we can really look forward to todays 2 massive games, which i can't watch cause i have a violin lesson :(
Chelsea tightened their grip on top spot with a hard-fought win over Stoke City, while Everton beat Swansea City to go second.
West Bromwich Albion are third after edging out Reading at The Hawthorns, and Sunderland are still unbeaten but without a win following a draw at West Ham United.
Southampton overcame Aston Villa to pick up their first points of the campaign, while Hugo Rodallega returned to haunt Wigan as Fulham ran out winners at the DW Stadium.
Chelsea were made to work hard at home against Stoke and had to show great patience before ultimately prevailing 1-0 thanks to Ashley Cole's late strike.
Roberto Di Matteo decided to rest Frank Lampard and John Terry after Chelsea's UEFA Champions League exploits in midweek, and it was a tale of frustration in the first half as the considerable attacking talents of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Oscar and Fernando Torres were well contained by Stoke, who came closest to taking the lead before the break when Jon Walters headed against the crossbar.
The breakthrough eventually came from an unlikely source with just five minutes to go as Cole took up the No.9 position and provided the finish to Mata's assist.
Everton had temporarily joined Chelsea on ten points at the top of the table after maintaining their impressive start to the season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Swansea City in the early kick-off.
Victor Anichebe broke the deadlock midway through the first half after strong play by Marouane Fellaini, before a flowing move presented Kevin Mirallas with the opportunity to open his Premier League account.
Any chance of a Swansea comeback was effectively extinguished in the 58th minute when Nathan Dyer was sent off for a second bookable offence, and Everton took advantage of their extra man to increase their advantage through Fellaini's deflected header with eight minutes remaining.
Southampton battled back to crush Aston Villa 4-1 at St Mary's and climb off the foot of the table.
Southampton's defensive frailties were exposed by Arsenal last weekend and they fell behind to an extremely soft goal as Darren Bent seized on a loose ball to fire home from close range for his first Premier League goal since February.
Rickie Lambert drew Saints level early in the second half with a well-taken finish after collecting Adam Lallana's cross and making room for himself on the edge of the area.
Nathaniel Clyne made it 2-1 to Southampton after latching on to Gaston Ramirez's clever flick to slot coolly past Brad Guzan, and Jason Puncheon's shot from a tight angle deflected in off Ciaran Clark to provide a two-goal cushion.
Lambert then put the icing on the cake with a late penalty after Guzan had brought down Emmanuel Mayuka.
Southampton's victory left Reading occupying bottom place after they were beaten 1-0 by West Brom.
West Brom suffered their first defeat of the season against Fulham last weekend but they always looked the better team against Reading and were unlucky not to take the lead in the first half when Jonas Olsson's header crashed off the post.
The Baggies were not to be denied, though, and grabbed the decisive goal of the contest thanks to Romelu Lukaku's low strike from the edge of the area which flew through a crowd of players.
Sunderland had to settle for a fourth straight draw after being pegged back to 1-1 by West Ham at Upton Park.
Steven Fletcher's hot streak continued as he opened the scoring for the Black Cats inside ten minutes, although James Collins and Jussi Jaaskelainen could both perhaps have done better to avert the danger.
Kevin Nolan was denied an equaliser before half-time as Simon Mignolet produced a stunning save to keep out his acrobatic volley, but he salvaged a point for his side in dramatic style in stoppage time.
Wigan were beaten 2-1 at home as Rodallega scored against his former club to help Fulhamconsolidate their position in the top half of the standings.
There was an unusual incident after a quarter-of-an-hour when referee Lee Probert suffered an injury scare after being caught in the middle of a challenge between Ben Watson and Steve Sidwell, but he was fine to continue.
Fulham then went in front through Rodallega, who decided not to celebrate after jumping highest to head home Dimitar Berbatov's cross.
Damien Duff smashed in a second in the 68th minute following good work by substitute Bryan Ruiz, and Fulham held on for three points despite Arouna Kone's late strike
Anyway today there are two huge games in arsenal vs man city and liverpool vs united
Unlike me most of you will probably be able to watch them and any comments telling me whats happening would be great
Have fun watching, see you tomorrow.

Weekend Preview

So its back to the weekend again and there are some big matches as man u play liverpool play man u and arsenal face city at the Etihad.

Here are some previews of all the games.

Everton are without star striker Nikica Jelavic after he collided with a post in Monday's game against Newcastle. Swansea have defensive problems to contend with as Chico is suspended and Kyle Bartley, Gary Monk and Neil Taylor are all injured.
Oscar is expected to be fit following his wonderful first start against Juventus that saw him score twice in the Champions League but also get a nasty kick from Leonardo Bonucci.
Summer signing Christian Benteke will make his first start for Villa after coming off the bench to score against Swansea last weekend. Southampton could also hand a first start to record signing Gaston Ramirez.
Peter Odemwingie is suspended for West Brom following his idiotic red card against Fulham, while Reading will once again be without goalkeeper Adam Federici so Alex McCarthy will stand in.
Andy Carroll has returned to training but is not ready to feature for West Ham. Sunderland are also deprived of an England international as Adam Johnson has a thigh problem.
Bryan Ruiz and Mladen Petric are both fit and vying for the right to start alongside Dimitar Berbatov in the Fulham attack.
Sunday
Liverpool will make widespread changes after putting out an inexperienced side to face Young Boys in the Europa League. Wayne Rooney has not made it back in time to feature for United while Ashley Young is another absentee.
Cheick Tiote could make his return from a calf injury to feature for Newcastle, who are also strengthened by the return of Papiss Cisse after he missed the Europa League game against Maritimo due to injury.
Brad Friedel will return in goal after Hugo Lloris was preferred in the Europea League. Meanwhile, QPR have been beset by injuries with Andy Johnson out for most of the season and Fabio and Anton Ferdinand both ruled out.
Samir Nasri misses the game against his former side but Sergio Aguero is fit to return in attack for City. Arsenal are again without goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny due to injury.

The Arsenal game is a massive one whilst the Man U game, in my opinion will be overshadowed by more handshake trash.

Here are my predictions for the game:

Swansea v Everton
1-2
Chelsea v Stoke
2-0
Southampton v Aston Villa
2-1
West Brom v Reading
2-2
West Ham v Sunderland
1-2
Wigan v Fulham
2-2
SUNDAY
Liverpool v Man Utd

1-3
Newcastle v Norwich

3-1
Man City v Arsenal

1-2
Tottenham v QPR

0-8

I think Arsenal will carry on their promising start to the season whilst i think Liverpool will not be fully focused due to Hillsborough, and i think their useless attack will let them down. Everton should beat Swansea who are still a good team, and Chelsea will have too much firepower up front for Stoke. Southampton should get their first Premier League points after a tough start to the season against a useless Villa side, whilst west brom racing will be an exciting game. I'm predicting wins for Sunderland and Newcastle, whilst i believe Sp*rs will be beaten by a Champions League winning QPR side.

Thats all for today, post ur predictions below.
Have a good friday.

Chelsea draw, Man U win plus Europa league

So yesterday Man u scraped out a tough win over Galatsaray whilst Chelsea were pegged back to a 2-2 draw

One has to admit Oscars second goal was an absolute beauty, but enough about yesterday and onto today as liverpool, newcastle and sp*rs are all in action in the Europa League. Yes for the benefit of all Arsenal fans i will repeat. Sp*rs in the Europa League :)

Liverpool Update: Jonjo Shelvey saved Liverpool with two goals in their Europa League group game at Young Boys. Juhani Ojala headed into his own net to put Liverpool ahead before poor defending let Rapahel Nuzzolo fire in an equaliser. Reds debutant Andre Wisdom's header restored the visitors' lead only for Ojala to nod home and Gonzalo Zarate to chip in to put Young Boys 3-2 up. A Sebastian Coates header and Shelvey's strikes then gave the Reds victory.

Newcastle Update: Newcastle squandered three glorious opportunities and started their Europa League campaign with a goalless draw. Dan Gosling struck the foot of the Maritimo post with a low drive on the half-hour, while Shola Ameobi hit the bar with a curling shot having earlier had a header pushed against the post. Valentin Roberge's powerful header from a corner was nodded off the line by Davide Santon with 10 minutes to go. That was as close as the hosts came, as Newcastle were left frustrated.

One more great piece of news for Arsenal fans is that Wilshere is back in training

Just to remind u to tell all ur friends about this blog, if u can try and spread it so i have as many readers as possible

Also remember to post ideas for the blog below

Thanks and thats all for today

SHARE MY BLOG

Hey guys a couple of things, first of all if all viewers so far could share this page with their friends, and secondly please could u make suggestions as to what i should include in my blog

Post number 2: Lets get it started

So the round of weekend matches has passed and yesterday we had the return of the Champions League. Real Madrid beat City whilst Jose Mourinho celebrated like he had scored the goal, and the Gunners, narrowly edged out Montpellier in a closely matched encounter.

In fact whilst I'm typing this Man U have just scored against Galatasaray and Chelsea are playing Juventus at the Bridge. A rather amusing comment on the BBC website said that chelsea are going to beat Juventus with Lampard scoring a Pirlo-esque penalty right at the end as revenge of England's exit form the Euros.

Tomorrow if i have time ill hopefully get a Champions League team of the week done and ill also begin to preview some of the weekends matches.

Anyway thats all for now, see u tomorrow.
